Lake o' the Woods Estate is a premier wedding venue in Warrenton, North Carolina. Our boutique facility boasts 125 acres of lush, rolling pasture, nestled into a mile long trail through our back woods. We have a larger than Olympic dressage sized sand arena, with mirrors. 8 large matted stalls (plus several run ins). We are a private estate, and with very limited additional lessons trailering in, it tends to be serene here.
The Working Student works directly under the Head Trainer to assist with all daily tasks for our training operation.. Including but not limited to feeding, turnout, blanketing, mucking, grooming, tacking, minor veterinary care, warming up, cooling down, hacking horses, cleaning tack, laundry etc. 6 days per week, generally with a long lunch break mid day. Our training is based in French Classical Dressage, but we also jump up to about one meter, plus we incorporate ethical natural horsemanship when necessary.
You must be comfortable and experienced handling horses on the ground, including young horses and fit/excitable upper level competition horses. You must be able to drive (we have a farm vehicle you can use, but you must be licensed). You must be physically able to do the job (lifting up to 50 lbs, walking/running for groundwork, comfortable working outdoors/around allergens). Intermediate riding skills would be a plus, but we will teach you. Independent thinking, attention to detail, and quick problem solving are a must. A strong desire to learn, and an appreciation for classical dressage would also be helpful.
Competitive salary. Private studio apartment and all utilities are included, plus a work phone. Board for one horse, free of charge, including farrier services (if you do not own a horse, possibility to bring in a training project, or increased salary in lieu). Daily riding, at least 3 - 4 lessons per week, opportunity to compete at both schooling and recognized shows. Stipend to cover relocation expenses. Access to all estate amenities including gym, pool, tennis courts, farm vehicles etc.
Private studio apartment, including galley kitchen, directly above the barn. Internet, TV/cable, heat, electric, water, and phone service all included as part of renumeration.
