About The Facility
Located in a peaceful mountain valley very near Lake Taoe, this quiet and picturesque 140 acre Arabian breeding farm is looking for a new, long-term team member! There are about 30 horses on the property, including stallions and young foals. This facility foals about 6-8 horses each year, and is working to bring all of their breeding operations (including IVF and Embryo Transfers!) in-house! While this facility is located in the southernmost tip of Nevada, the high altitude does mean snow in the winters, but you'll be hard pressed to find a more beautiful spring/summer!
Job Description
This long-established Arabian farm is looking for a new team member to assist in the breeding and daily operations on their 30 horse facility! The ideal individual will be comfortable working with youngstock and at least lightly experienced working with breeding stallions and foaling. This is very much a team oriented environment, where all members of staff work as well to maintain the facility, complete the daily care operations, and complete extra projects as needed. Someone who knows their way around farm equipment, and isn't afraid to pick up a hammer will be looked at favorably! This is a facility which believes strongly in continued education for all staff members, and will provide ample opportunities for learning and growth - including sending the breeding team to seminars/workshops and investing one-on-one time with the team's vets. Kindness and patience in working with the young horses are an absolute necessity. This is not a riding/training position, as farm only focuses on breeding and sales.
Job Requirements
Applicants should be:
- Experienced handling foals and youngstock
- Experienced handling stallions and broodmares
- Interested in the Arabian breed
- Willing to participate in foalwatch, foaling procedures, etc.
- Knowledgeable about basic first aide
- Willing to complete all basic farm chores with the team
- Willing to assist in maintenance, included but not limited to mowing/weed eating, fence repairs, waterer repairs, dragging arenas and pastures, seasonal cleanup
- Interested in continuing to learn and grow as breeding technology advances
- Willing to work as a team
- Comfortable giving IV/IM injections on all ages
- Must be comfortable driving truck/trailer, and have experience introducing foals to trailering
