About The Facility
The Penn Hall Equestrian Center is the epicenter of equestrian activity at Wilson College. The facility is conveniently located in the heart of campus and provides students and their horses with first-rate stabling opportunities, as well as indoor and outdoor arenas.
Job Description
Wilson College seeks a Stables Assistant II. Reporting to the Equestrian Center Coordinator, the Stables Assistant II will assist with providing for the physical care of up to 72 Wilson and privately owned horses. The duties include maintenance of the Equestrian Center in a manner consistent with a professional equine facility, and providing supervision and training of staff and students while fostering a positive learning environment.
Job Requirements
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Participate in the daily maintenance and health care of the horses, and facility maintenance.
2. Mentor and train staff and students in the daily care, health care and facility maintenance.
3. Operate tractor and dump trailers safely and correctly even in adverse weather conditions.
4. Perform arena and other maintenance including but not limited to fence repair and pasture construction.
5. Use good judgement in keeping staff and horses safe and the facility running in an efficient and professional manner. Display professionalism even in difficult circumstances, such as euthanasia, emergencies, dealing with the public/staff/students.
6. Assess injuries and illnesses and carry out the directives of the Center Coordinator, Assistant Center Coordinator or Veterinarian.
7. Perform admissions tours for prospective boarders and students.
8. Help with identifying, trying and acquiring horses for purchase or donation.
9. Assist with summer camps, horse shows, open houses, and all other ancillary programs.
10. All other duties as assigned by supervisor.
