About The Facility
The facility is a semi-private hunter/jumper boarding and training barn located on 30 acres in Hawthorn Woods, IL. We currently board 36 horses and have a team of 7 grooms. Our head groom and family live on the property. Co-located on the property is a growing rehabilitation and equine services veterinary practice. This combination offers a collaborative environment where the horse's health and training is truly a primary focus.
Job Description
The position of horse care manager would be responsible for overseeing the quality care of all horses, ensuring that all horses' basic needs are met for nutrition, water, shelter and health care. Implementing feeding and turnout schedules. Oversight of ordering and stocking hay, grain, supplements, medications and shavings. Ensuring safety in all horse areas. Performing tasks necessary to support schooling, conditioning and training routines as directed by senior trainer. This position is not a riding position but riding ability is necessary for instances where a vet may need to see a horse under saddle or the trainers need help exercising horses.
Job Requirements
The horse care manager must be highly skilled in all aspects of horsemanship and possess a working knowledge of basic medical treatments, equine nutritional needs, equine behavioral management techniques, a broad knowledge of equine barn operations and the ability to effectively communicate.
