One of Ocala's premier veterinary hospitals is looking for a new Surgery Technician! This facility caters specifically to sport horses and the thoroughbred industry, focusing primarily on sports medicine, orthopedic procedures, reproductive medicine, and high level diagnostics. The main practice consists of a surgery division, lab department, an ambulatory division and facility which includes 3 barns, Swimming pool recovery system, MRI, CT advanced imaging, Nuclear Scintigraphy, Pet Scan and state-of-the art equipment in all areas. The surgical caseload consists of elective / emergency orthopedic and upper airway cases.
Surgery technician position works in a team environment in preparation of surgery procedures. Perform duties such as required clipping, scrubbing technician procedures, prepare surgery area with correct instruments and equipment. Position requires working with Surgeons and Anesthetists. Assist with moving patients from stalls to hospital surgery area and return to stall based on direction from surgeons.
Hours are Monday – Friday 7:30am until daily surgery are completed and rotating on call schedule for nights and weekends.
• US work authorization (Required)
• Exceptional horse handling skills required – must be comfortable handling and restraining horses
• Basic equine medical training, anatomy and understanding of sterile technique 2 years preferred
• Scrub / Surgery Technician 2 years or more preferred
• B.S. Degree or a degree from a veterinary technical program are a plus
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Flexibility and Multitasking skills
• An outstanding work ethic and self-drive
• Capable of recognizing patient emergency situations
• Capable of heavy lifting
• Ability to perform all job duties while standing
• Additional responsibilities as assigned.
While experience as a surgery tech is strongly favored, training is available for someone with enough relevant skills and experience.
