About The Facility
At the equestrian facility in Rancho Santa Fe, CA, PRS is engaged in the following activities:
• Maintains equestrian property for business operations and personal enjoyment
• Cares for and trains top-level horses for national and international horse show jumping competitions; Karl Cook (owners' son) and Eric Navet (trainer) are the two primary elite riders for Pomponio Ranch South
• Leases out stall space and may train third-party horses
Job Description
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
• Provide feed and water to the horses according to a specific schedule
• Tack horses up for riders
• Maintain a clean working environment by ensuring:
o All shelves/trunks/drawers are wiped down throughout day
o Aisles remain free of shavings/ clutter
o Horses are groomed to team standard
o Stalls are kept clean throughout day (shavings dry and free of feces)
o Water buckets are clean
o Laundry is done - including cleaning boots/wraps
o Tack is cleaned/wiped down daily
• Perform Horse Therapy responsibilities as instructed by managers and prescribed by the Vet, including:
o Massaging horses
o Stretching some horses
o Using therapeutic machines on horses
• Other Groom responsibilities:
o Pack hooves
o Turn out horses
o Hand walk and lunge the horses
o Bathe the horses
o Braid the horse’s manes
o Clip the horses
o Oversee horses in equine spa
o Setup and breakdown at shows
o Place and remove studs
o Ice legs (when horses don’t go into spa)
o Wrap legs of horses
• Ride horses when necessary
• Rotating activities/tasks (when chosen as a point person/lead)
o Scheduling
o Packing
o Going to the Ring
o Any other show related activities
• Training new hires
• Blanket horses (night checks) as necessary
• Act as back up contact for horse care and emergencies
Job Requirements
Qualifications/Requirements:
• At least 1-2 years of relevant experience is required.
o Show experience: FEI level/A Circuit Horseshows
o References will be required and checked
• Experience and knowledge of caring for equines
• Knowledge of safe work practices around horses
• Experience in monitoring animal appearance/behavior and communicating information to superiors
• Travel required for at least 22 weeks during the year, including potential for international travel
• Must be 18 years or older
• Clear background check and proof of authorization to work in the U.S.
• Strong communication skills
• Work effectively with minimal supervision; self-starter and self-motivated
• Physical requirements
o Ability to work outdoors, on uneven, slippery terrain in varying weather conditions with dust and allergens
o Ability to twist, bend, kneel, climb and use hand tools as necessary
o Ability to lift 75 lbs.
