The main ranch in San Gregorio, CA, PRN is engaged in the following activities:
• Maintains 2,700-acre property for business operations and personal enjoyment
• Breeds and raises cattle for sale as pasture-raised beef as well as breeds and raises hogs for pork sales (www.pompoinioranchmeat.com).
• Breeds horses and raises horses (www.pomponioranchstallions.com) to become competition show jumpers and/or for sale.
• Breeds and raises alpaca and sheep for the sale of the fiber (www.valhallayarns.com).
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Farmers’ Market Duties:
• Sell at farmers markets as needed
• Load/unload coolers and market equipment
• Set up/breakdown booth at different markets
• Handle cash and credit card transactions
• Develop new and maintain current relationships with farmers markets, as needed
• Maintain clean, organized workspace and professional appearance at markets
Ranch Hand Duties:
• Assist Ranch Manager with livestock operation, including daily care:
o watering,
o feeding,
o grazing, herding in accordance with Holistic Management practices and practicing stress-free handling
• Assist in tagging, castrating, and administering vaccinations to livestock
• Set up paddocks with portable electric fencing.
• Maintain farm/ranch structures, e.g. buildings, fences (electric single line, electric portable and barbed wire)
• Maintain and ensure ranch/farm equipment is in good operating order
• Assist with horses and Alpacas as needed, e.g. feeding, exercising, grooming, blanketing and keeping paddocks cleaned.
• Overall maintaining and ensuring the entire Ranch is clean and neat.
• Operate ATVs, trucks, and other machinery/equipment
Qualifications/Requirements:
• At least 1-2 years of experience and knowledge working on a ranch
• Knowledge of safe work practices around horses and other livestock
• Livestock experience
• Experience in monitoring animal appearance/behavior and communicating any necessary information to superiors
• Must have proof of authorization to work in the United States
• Must be 18 years or older and drug-free
• Clear background check
• Strong communication skills
• Work effectively with minimal supervision, self-motivated and self-starter
• Physical requirements
o Ability to work outdoors, on uneven, slippery terrain in varying weather conditions with dust and allergens
o Ability to twist, bend, kneel, climb, lift 100 lbs., and use hand tools as necessary
• Safely operate ATV
• Strong commitment to teamwork
• Ability to adhere to the organization's policies, procedures and regulations
• Ability to adapt to changes throughout the day
• Must have a California Driver’s License
• Class A Commercial license a plus (but not required)
• Working weekends is required
