About The Facility
The equestrian facility in Rancho Santa Fe, CA, PRS is engaged in the following activities:
• Maintains equestrian property for business operations and personal enjoyment
• Cares for and trains top-level horses for national and international horse show jumping competitions; Karl Cook (owners' son) and Eric Navet (trainer) are the two primary elite riders for Pomponio Ranch South
• Leases out stall space and may train third-party horses
Job Description
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Managerial Responsibilities:
· Overall effective, productive, and consistent management of PRS travel team
· Establish and maintain high level of morale, health, and productivity of travel team
· Recruiting, hiring, onboarding staff as needed
o Manage and ensure proper PRS standards training, onboarding, and orientation of new employees
o Improve retention among the team and future hires, i.e., build into recruiting and hiring process
· Conducting and monitoring performance evaluations for travel team at least annually, preferable every six (6) months
· Finance and Accounting Responsibilities:
o Payroll responsibilities including, approving time, ensuring reimbursements are submitted timely, etc. for travel team
o Report, review, approve, and submit all show expenses, receipts, invoices, and statements of show winnings to PRS Admin for reconciliation
o Track and maintain petty cash/emergency checks with supporting documentation
· Work with Home Office to ensure adherence to all CA Labor laws and compliance of other regulations
· Manage 3rd party horses on Pomponio’s property
· Develop strategy (e.g. timing, uploads, etc.) & manage all social media for PRS
· Assist Property/Barn Manager on needs (optional & if time permits)
Show Responsibilities:
· Travel with the team/rider(s) for all shows throughout the year (please note this is a mobile position; travel is required at least 40 weeks per year):
o Plan, develop, manage, and update annual show schedule
o Arrange and manage all the show logistics for team, riders, and vets including:
▪ Air travel, lodging leases/contracts, car rentals, essentials, etc.
▪ Show entries, registrations, and ring schedules
▪ VIP access
▪ Provide needed info to appropriate people, e.g., travel, show info to logistic manager
▪ Specific Show events (if appropriate)
o Oversee the packing of all equipment, supplies, necessities for each show, including the necessary vehicles and manpower (e.g., drivers, other, etc.) for travel.
o Create scheduling and staffing plan for each show and update accordingly
o Work with Show riders to determine specific show schedules
o Create and manage daily tasking plan and agenda for each show, this includes assigning individual responsibilities for each location
o Monitor, identify, and resolve personnel and performance issues
o Manage inventory of supplies in barn
o Ensure show barn is clean and organized at all times
o Schedule and manage 3rd party riders, as needed
o Chipping in wherever and whenever needed
Horse Responsibilities:
· Manage all horse registrations and planning, including:
o Air travel,
o Hauling,
o Accommodations
o Barn and stall reservations
o Feeding/bedding orders, etc.
· Ensure all horse passports are current
· Obtain health certificates, coggins, and all necessary documentation when leaving the state
· Ensure horse show team has all updated vaccines
· Work with vets, etc. on needs, issues, and/or concerns with horses
o Manage and ensure the flow of information between Vet, Riders and Owner via phone, Basecamp, email, text, etc.
Job Requirements
Qualifications/Requirements:
• Management experience and at least 5 years’ experience in similar role
• At least 2-3 years of experience and knowledge of caring for equines is preferred
• Knowledge and background in the Equine industry
• Knowledge of safe work practices around horses and other livestock
• Experience in monitoring animal appearance/behavior and communicating any necessary information to relevant personnel
• Strong commitment to teamwork
• Ability to communicate effectively
• Work effectively with minimal supervision; self-motivated and self-starter
• Good organizational skills
• Flexible and open work schedule
• Ability to travel a significant amount of the year for shows (~ 40+ weeks per year)
• Must have proof of authorization to work in the United States
• Must be 18 years or older, and drug-free
• Clear background check
• Physical requirements
o Ability to work outdoors, on uneven, slippery terrain in varying weather conditions with dust and allergens
o Ability to twist, bend, kneel, climb and use hand tools as necessary
o Ability to lift 80-100 lbs.
