About The Facility
The Equine Reproduction Laboratory is part of the Animal Reproduction and Biotechnology Laboratory in the Department ofBiomedical Sciences within the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University. The
Equine Reproduction Laboratory has developed leading-edge equine reproduction techniques for the equine industry for over 45years. Techniques such as collection of semen and artificial insemination, recovery and transfer of equine embryos, shipping cooledsemen, and shipping cooled embryos are now routine in the equine industry, due in large part to the research, education, andoutreach efforts of the
Equine Reproduction Laboratory.
Job Description
Farm Manager will oversee the care for horses housed at the Equine Reproduction Laboratory. The primary duties of this position are to: 1) directly oversee the feeding and watering of horses as directed by faculty and animal needs; 2) directly over see the cleaning and maintenance of facilities as needed for proper care of horses; 3) oversee horse-care staff, including hiring,providing work assignments, proper orientation and training and scheduling as based on needs and number of horses at the
;4) oversee equipment and supplies including routing maintenance of equipment; 5) act as a liaison with
unit for commoditypurchases; 6) act as a liaison between
mare and stallion team and
feed crew for changes in feeding protocols andindividual needs; and 7) provide fiscal management of animal care. Specifically, this position needs to make sure the animals arehealthy, which requires strong communication skills, coordination and record keeping. During an emergency this position works incoordination with other Foothills animal managers for evacuation of and relocation of animals depending on the situation. This position requires practical horse experience and managerial experience.
Job Requirements
*Bachelor’s degree in Equine Science, Animal Science or related agriculture field. Associates degree may be substituted with anadditional 2 years of experience.
Three years of experience in animal care management with demonstrated ability and experience in managing horses and anequine facility, including feed management, heavy equipment operation, truck and trailer operation.
*Minimum of two years management experience; managing a group of 3+ individuals.
*Demonstrated organizational abilities and attention to detail such as the ability to maintain high quality records and other datamanagement.
*Demonstrated ability to interact professionally with faculty, staff, students, clients, and other University staff and industry partners.
*Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license or access to a licensed driver by the employment startdate.
*Flexibility to work extended hours, including early mornings, weekends and holidays, as necessary.
*Basic computer skills.
*3 or more years of experience with horse care, equine facility management.
*Strong working knowledge of horse related commodities, such as hay, grain and horse bedding. Ability to make basic facility repairs as necessary.
*Conversationally bilingual in Spanish.
