Dogwood Canyon Nature Park is a 10,000-acre slice of alluring Ozarks paradise offering hiking, biking, Segway tours, wildlife tram tours, horseback riding, and trout fishing. The vision of Bass Pro Shops founder/CEO Johnny Morris, the property serves as an outdoor playground that inspires visitors to get involved in wildlife conservation. The natural beauty of the park includes towering bluffs, waterfalls, creek beds, handcrafted bridges and wildlife such as American bison, Rocky Mountain elk and white-tailed deer. Dogwood Canyon Nature Park recently received its largest renovation to date, and in 2016 opened a fully restored working gristmill, restaurant, conservation center, and stables facility with a rider’s lounge. Job Description
Dogwood Canyon is currently seeking a FULL TIME TRAIL GUIDE/WRANGLER to join the team! This individual will prepare and handle horses for trail rides and wagon rides while ensuring the safety for all guests engaged in Stables activities. The trail guide/wrangler is responsible for maintaining an exceptionally clean and healthy environment at the Stables and for the horses on property.
Essential Functions:
-Have a clear understanding of all safety guidelines to lead and conduct a safe, enjoyable trail ride for Stables guests.
-Be an experienced rider and able to teach others to ride.
-Feed, give health care, and saddle trail horses
-Drive a carriage for special occasions
-Perform all stall cleaning duties as required.
-Maintain current information on Stables schedules, activity prices and be able to inform guests.
-Be able and willing to work in harmony with all departments and Dogwood Canyon guests.
-Assist in keeping Stables areas, tack and livestock as neat and clean as possible.
-Walk/Lead/Horse Rides
-Perform stables duties with a minimum of supervision.
-Perform all duties in a safe and enjoyable manner interacting with the Guest(s).
-Work within schedule and guidelines set by Stables and Dogwood Canyon Management.
-Adhere to all rules and regulations established in Dogwood Canyon standard operation procedure manual.
-Must be highly service focused with a desire to engage with guests, with exceptional customer service.
-Be knowledgeable about Dogwood Canyon and its history.
-Must adhere to all company/department safety standards and policies.
-Must be open to working mandatory/approved overtime.
-Must be open to working weekends/weekdays/nights when necessary/critical to support the business.
-Must be able to cover shifts at affiliate Conservation Attraction properties.
-Must have an approved driving record and operate a company vehicle if required/applicable.
-Perform other duties as required.
Job Requirements
MINIMUM Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education:
-Be able to lift up to 75 lbs. on a regular basis and work in hot/cold weather conditions
-Must have 3-5 years of experience/knowledge of riding horses, grooming, tack, guiding groups of people on trail rides.
-Provide leadership to stables associates Demonstrate initiative – ability to think, work, and make decisions to solve concerns based on sound judgment.
-Must excel in a fast-paced environment where continuous improvement is expected.
-Must be able to consistently achieve high work standards; attention to detail, accuracy, cleanliness and timeliness are a must.
-Follow up with stables staff to ensure daily duties are being completed.
-Keep manager informed of supply needs
-Assist manager in ordering supplies, scheduling staff, and stables services
-Must have a flexible schedule to meet the demands of the park and its guests.
-Train new wranglers on stables SOP.Requires walking / standing; lifting, stooping, forward bending, crouching and sitting
-Any combination of experience, education, skills, certification(s) etc. will be taken into consideration
-Must be able to work in an environment with exposure to sunlight, various animals, weather, loud sounds, low lighting, close quarters, high/low temperatures, etc.
